About

Hi, and welcome to my website. I’m a former broadcast journalist, working for ITV and the BBC, author, PR consultant and blogger. In short, words are my thing.

I’ve had a lifelong passion for writing, in fact (funny story) I wrote my first novel – a coming-of-age children’s story – when I was just 12 years old. It was politely turned down by all the major publishing houses, who didn’t quite agree that it was the British female version of Stephen King’s Stand by Me. However, I persevered with writing and went on to study English and Journalism at university and I was one of just four people in the UK to be granted a BBC scholarship during my postgraduate studies.

I’ve since written for and been featured in a number of publications including the HuffPost, Yahoo! Style, Independent, Woman and more. You can see some of the media coverage around my novel on my press page. When I’m not writing books, I run a PR consultancy and training firm – HK Communications. As well as supporting corporates, a real passion of mine in empowering small businesses and entrepreneurs to create powerful PR on their own, saving them thousands of pounds in the process. Work aside, I run a niche lifestyle blog – halimabobs.com where I get to do fun things like review lipsticks and restaurants. I started the blog in 2011 and it’s still going strong.

When I’m not doing all of the above, I hold down my most important – and rewarding job of all – being a mum to my two babies, Ishaaq and Hannah. They’ve been a core part of my writing journey, as I wrote my debut novel – The Secret Diary of an Arranged Marriage, whilst napping and nursing Hannah. It was published, when I was nine months pregnant with Ishaaq. They are my inspiration to keep writing, keep working, and always aim to do better. I always love to hear from readers.
